Speech/Language Therapists and Parents Building Confident Readers

Remember the old saying, “Children should be seen and not heard?” Research tells us that for children to become readers, they should listen and talk a lot. Literacy cannot be built without a strong language foundation.

Speech/Language pathologists are the “language experts” and you are your child’s first and most important teacher. Asheville Speech Associates presents a unique opportunity for parents and therapists to work together to ensure your child’s love of reading by:

  • Building spoken language by talking and listening
  • Learning how to associate spoken language with print
  • Learning about the sounds of spoken language (this is called phonological awareness)
  • Teaching parents about “guided” reading

The next PARTNER WITH PARENTS preschool literacy group for 4-5 year olds will be held every Saturday in October, 2014, from 10am – 11am (Oct.4 – Oct. 25) at Asheville Speech Associates, 1063 Haywood Rd., Asheville, NC.

Spaces are limited.
